Hello and thank you to all whÄnau who have found time to seek knowledge and
understanding aboutÂ our class, Te Pitau Whakarei, the MÄori Medium Reo
EnrichmentÂ Unit at Nelson Intermediate School. Â
For the students, the expectations of them in Te Pitau Whakarei

The Values and Attitudes are the guiding prinicples that this class is built on.Â It encompasses five basic MÄori principles Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Rangatiratanga, Whanaungatanga and Pitau Whakareitanga (Hirangatanga).Â These values and attitudes remind and have students become accountable for their own learning.
Students learn from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and assessment is guided by NgÄ Whanaketanga Rumaki MÄori for kÅrero, pÄnui and tuhituhi.
Students learn from New Zealand Curriculum and assessment is guided by The National Standards for maths.
Te Pitau Whakarei is a learning environment dedicated to uplifting the mana of its students through te reo me Åna tikanga MÄori, with the combined committed efforts of the students, their whanau, the kaiako and wider partners such as the wider school and marae.
